The main purpose of my essay is to examine and compare the past and present representation of masculinity in the media. I believe that there are some major distinctions between traditional and modern representations of men that change the perception of the “ideal male.” For instance, whereas men with rugged features with open shirts and medallions were favored in the past, men with smooth features with designer fashion wear are much favored in the present. If possible, I would like to comment on the effect of such representation among the consumers of media. The media tends to present ideal figures that shape the standard of perceived beauty in the era. Such formation of idols blur individual characteristics and leads consumers to focus too much on external beauty.
